A recent Canalys report revealed that Samsung has emerged as the no 1 smartphone brand in Q4, 2022. In the quarter, Samsung had a 21% market share. Samsung says that the Galaxy A series is the largest-selling series from the company in 2022 and has sold over 10 million smartphones.
Also, India is now 5G ready and 5G smartphone shipments have increased significantly in the last 12 months or so. Samsung already offers 5G smartphones starting at Rs 11,999. And, the company wants to make 5G phones more accessible to its customers.
Speaking to TOI-Gadgets Now, Aditya Babbar, smartphone business head, Samsung India mentioned that for 2023 they want to offer “great value creation, availability and affordability” for its customers.
“The core of Galaxy A-Series smartphone is offering value. So, what we have always kept at the principle for is being democratisation of technology,” he says. Elaborating on what democratisation of tech means, Babbar says, “When I say democratisation of technology, IP67 and now we have 5G at the core of democratisation of technology”, says Babbar.
“The mission we have taken for Samsung India is that 75% of our value should come from 5G in the year 2023 and that’s a very big mission. Galaxy A-series, of course, will be at the core of driving this”, he further adds.
Now, Samsung has already kicked off the year by launching two new 5G smartphones — Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A23 5G. The highlight here is Galaxy A14 5G, which costs Rs 14,999 after a discount. Speaking about the phone, Babbar mentioned that “A14 is a complete package being affordable in the market. At 14,900 it has an FHD screen, 6.6-inch display size, a certified 2-day battery life and One UI 5 out-of-the-box and enhanced privacy”.
Making 5G smartphones more affordable is another agenda Babbar talked about. He says, “buying a 5G smartphone is cheaper than 4G. Galaxy A13 can be bought at an EMI of Rs 1466, whereas Galaxy A14 5G is available at Rs 1,302 monthly EMI which roughly translates to Rs 44 per day”.
