Washington, DC, June 15, 2023: This year, the Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle promises to be bigger and better than ever before, serving up a delectable array of smoked meats, finger-licking sauces, and culinary delights. Food enthusiasts, barbecue aficionados, and families are invited to join in the festivities and indulge in the ultimate Barbecue experience.

Event Details:

BBQ Contests: Witness the fierce competition as pitmasters from across the country battle it out for the title of Grand Champion. Experience the art of slow-cooking and witness the secrets behind mouthwatering ribs, brisket, chicken, and more. The event will host multiple BBQ contests where celebrity chefs and backyard cooks will battle for cash prizes, trophies and the ultimate title of National BBQ Grand Champion. The contests will be judged by a panel of The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) trained and certified judges. Other exciting contests include Nathan’s World-Famous Hotdog Eating Contest and the Military Chef Cook-Off, pitting top chefs from the major branches of the military against each other in a people’s contest judged by attendees.

Food & Beverage Sampling: Get a taste of barbecue bliss with numerous food vendors offering an array of culinary delights. From traditional BBQ classics to unique flavor fusions, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Make sure to come hungry to enjoy several large pavilions offering tasty free food samples from iconic favorites to international delicacies! Popular BBQ restaurants from DC and around the country will serve up delicious BBQ chicken, pulled pork, ribs and mouth-watering brisket to order, and to quench everyone’s thirst, the event features the Giant Corks to Caps Wine and Microbrew Sampling Tent and Anheuser-Busch Libation Stations. A full weekend stage schedule of cooking demonstrations with celebrity pitmasters and chefs round out the culinary action.

Live Entertainment: Groove to the sounds of live music from renowned artists and local bands on multiple stages. Enjoy a toe-tapping eclectic mix of tunes ranging from Blues to Reggae to R&B to Go-Go, creating the perfect backdrop for a festive atmosphere. This year, the event has teamed up with Washington, DC’s new Art to Go-Go District and Kit-Kat to highlight DC’s unique flavor and designation as the Go-Go Capital of the World. As part of the celebration the event will feature the country’s best Go-Go bands with Raheen DeVaughn and The Crank Crusaders, The Chuck Brown Band, EU, BYB, Be’la Dona and others on the Pepsi-Lay’s Go-Go Stage. International entertainment will be showcased on the Pepsi Stronger Together World Music Stage with musicians & dancers from Jamaica, Bolivia, Panama, and other countries.

90’s Block Party Featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff: To celebrate the event’s 31st year, Monster Energy presents a 90’s Block Party with DJ Jazzy Jeff, BMX Team performing stunts on a quarter pipe, BBoys Breaking Team performing a show packed with acrobatic stunts and the hottest dance moves, and live custom street art by graffiti artist MEME.
