Fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez on his favourite scents
Each fortnight, Stephanie Darling gets inside the head of an industry expert or media personality. Ahead, Stephanie chats to Narciso Rodriguez, an American designer of Cuban heritage who is known as the “master of purity”. This is reflected in his fashion (he designed Carolyn Bessette’s wedding dress for her marriage to John F. Kennedy jnr in 1996) and now his fragrance. His latest perfume, For Her, is based on his passion for musk oil.
What I’m loving right now For Her Musc Noir Rose (myer.com.au, $106). It’s delicate but radiates sensuality and this contrast makes it unique. For myself, I love my For Him Bleu Noir Parfum (chemistwarehouse.com.au, $100) and wear it daily. Other things near the top of my list are Doja Cat’s Planet Her album because it’s so funny and raunchy and Dust magazine because it is beautifully conceived and really inspiring to look at.
Beauty icon French model Lola Nicon. She possesses a rare natural grace and style that I find mesmerising.
Biggest influences Shades of nude, blush and pink have been a consistent inspiration for me and my work. I’ve been very influenced by Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. He was a designer’s designer, admired by all.

I also revere modernist architect Mies van der Rohe’s work, which has inspired me throughout my career.
Favourite exercise routine Walking around New York City is my daily “mantra” and nothing keeps me more inspired than that.
