Fans continue to lash out at CSK for snubbing ‘Mr IPL’ Suresh Raina at the IPL auction | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: It’s been more than a day since the Indian Premier League mega auction concluded on Sunday, but social media is still buzzing about the event – over it’s outcome, fans’ reactions to the new IPL millionaires and other hot talking points.
The one taking point which refuses to die down is Suresh Raina, a cricketer who became synonymous with the IPL going unsold.

Raina was with four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings from the beginning and is popularly known as ‘Mr IPL’ for his consistent performances in the league. He also picked up the nickname of ‘Chinna Thala’ (right hand of the leader) in Tamil Nadu.

Rain missed the 2020 season due to personal reasons, which was the first season since the inaugural season in 2008 that he had missed an IPL season. He returned to the CSK camp last year, but had his worst season ever, managing to score just 160 runs in 12 games, at an average of under 18. But over the years, Raina has been one of the most dependable players in the IPL. At one time he was the leagues highest run getter and had played every single match for CSK, till he missed his first match in the 2018 edition after 158 straight games.
Over the years MS Dhoni and Raina became the two Indian pillars of the team and formed a very strong bond.

But something seems to have changed after Raina left the UAE before the 2020 season, citing personal reasons. What exactly happened has never really been clarified by anyone.
After the auction this time, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath said that the management did not acquire Suresh Raina as the former India batter may not fit in the current team’s composition.
But the fans are not buying that argument, with the hashtag – ‘#Boycott_ChennaiSuperKings’ trending.

But it wasn’t just CSK, none of the other 9 teams bid for Raina either, clearly showing that he didn’t fit into the long term scheme of things of any of the franchises.
Unless Raina is signed as a replacement player by one of the teams, his glorious IPL journey, which saw him play 205 matches and score 5528 runs, with one century and 39 half centuries, seems to have come to an end.
Here are some fan reactions to Suresh Raina not finding a buyer and CSK choosing to end their very long association with him:
