Discussions are over, time to execute plans: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News – Times of India

MOHALI: The six matches against Australia and South Africa are seen as a dress rehearsal ahead of the T20 World Cup Down Under, next month, and as such India skipper Rohit Sharma expects his boys to go all out and express themselves, even if that means taking calculated risks with innovative shots or starting an over with a bouncer.
Rohit mentioned that he wanted to bring a sense of “security” in the team which is why the squads for the two T20I series (Australia and South Africa) were announced ahead of the World Cup team.
Barring the pace trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh, who will be rested during the course of the six matches, the captain feels the boys can freely extend their limits in these games.

“In these six games, we want to keep trying what we can achieve with different styles. It is all about going out and trying to find ways of exploring ourselves but there is no limit to trying out new things. You can extend yourself in so many directions to achieve so many things for the team,” the skipper said.
‘Aggression mixed with caution is the approach’
The disastrous T20 World Cup campaign last year will still be fresh on the Indian team’s mind, and as such Rohit reiterated that the team will approach each game with an aggressive mindset, while underlining the importance of a “second line of defence” in case of casualties.

“We will continue to play like that. That is something we spoke quite clearly at the start of my (captaincy tenure) and everyone is comfortable with that. At the same time we know our second line of defence if we are in trouble. We spend a lot of time talking about these things. Guys are very clear if we are 10 for three how we need to bat. If we are 50 for no loss, how we need to bat. These have been discussed at length, it is just about executing now,” he said.
“This approach of ours has given us a lot of trust that we can go out and play like that. It is a great sign. We will have another review meeting of the last 10 months after these six games and will see what we need to do in the World Cup,” he said.
