Denied ambulance, Rewa man carried on cot to hospital – ET HealthWorld
Bhopal: Pictures of a man being carried on a cot to a hospital in Rewa district had gone viral, prompting people to mock and question the healthcare facilities in the state.
Kin of the patient told reporters that they called an ambulance and waited for almost two hours before deciding to get him to the hospital on their own.
However, soon after learning about the pictures, health officials ordered a probe and later denied that the patient was not provided an ambulance facility. Rather the kin brought the injured patient to the hospital on their own, they said.
Images of a middle-aged man, identified as Hiralal Dwivedi, resident of Sathani village in Sagra police station area of Rewa district, lying on a cot and carried on shoulder by several youths had gone viral. The picture was identified to be of June 18, and the patient was brought to Sanjay Gandhi medical college and hospital, Rewa after he got injured while trying to climb on a mango tree, said sources.
Sources said that talking to local media persons, Hiralal’s kin alleged that they could not get an ambulance facility after waiting for long forcing them to make him lie on a cot and using a loading vehicle to take him to hospital.
The chief medical and health officer, Rewa Dr KP Gupta took note of the picture and ordered a probe. Health officials refuted the allegations of the victim’s kin.
Talking to a news agency, CMHO, Rewa, Dr KP Gupta said, “I have enquired about it from the ambulance service operator. There is nothing to suggest that the ambulance did not arrive. Instead, the kin of the victim did not wait for the ambulance and got the patient to hospital on their own.”
