“In the past two days, families of two brain-dead patients — Dipak Rana of Dholka and Ranchhod Solanki of Kheda — agreed on cadaver donations for organ retrieval. Both had sustained severe head injuries in two different incidents. In both instances, two kidneys and a liver were retrieved,” he said, adding that the tireless work by the entire staff associated with the process made the feat possible. At LG Hospital, the first cadaver donation was recorded with the retrieval of heart, kidneys, liver and cornea. “Rakesh Rohit, 32, a road accident victim, was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit on June 11. However, he could not be revived and was declared brain-dead on Thursday,” said an official.
