Celebrating Pride: AMA Shows Its Support for the LGBTQIA+ Community

Many people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community in Australia live happily and healthily. However, they experience some unacceptable health inequities compared to those who do not identify as LGBTQIA+. This year AMA outlines health issues experienced by people who are LGBTQIA+ in Australia and calls for action to improve the health experiences and outcomes of these communities and individuals.

People identifying themselves as LGBTQIA+ include trans and gender-diverse people (

Many of the health inequities faced by these people relate to high levels of overt and implicit discrimination, both socially and within institutions. Providing gender-affirming care can result in a wide range of positive health outcomes for people who are trans and gender diverse.
