Ten years after Bellus Academy founder Lynelle Lynch imagined Beauty Changes Lives as a philanthropic initiative to fuel the future of professional beauty, her vision has ignited a movement and changed more than 800 lives. The 10-year anniversary of Beauty Changes Lives was celebrated during America’s Beauty Show in Chicago.
The Beauty Changes Lives Experience on Sunday, April 10, saluted the non-profit’s 10-year anniversary. Nearly 1,000 beauty industry icons, next-gen talent and friends of beauty raised $100,000 that will help empower and equip the next generation of beauty professionals with support including tuition scholarships, mentorship opportunities, and business grants.
“Ten years ago, we announced our intention to shape the future in a beautiful way and help this industry be even more successful,” said Lynch. “Over the past decade, Beauty Changes Lives has impacted more than 800 lives, helped recruit and retain talent, raised $7.5 million for much-needed resources, and celebrated the diversity and inclusion that have always been at the heart of professional beauty. We look forward to celebrating even more lives changed and career paths launched in the next 10 years.”
A community vibe characterized the Beauty Changes Lives Experience as scholarship winners shared the stage with special guest event host Sam Villa. Winners shared their personal stories of how pursuing a career in personal beauty has changed their lives. Celebrity hairstylists Ted Gibson and Jason Backe presented the winners of the WorthUp Alliance Dream Capital Grants, awarding $20,000 to entrepreneurs who will continue to evolve the future of beauty. The evening concluded with artistic runway presentations from beauty’s most innovative brands, created by industry expert mentors and their next-gen mentees. Each brand showcased hair, nail and makeup creations in a dynamic production embracing the “METAMORPH” theme. Runway presentations were crafted by artists from: Floyd’s 99 Barbershop, IGK Hair, L3VEL3 Professional, CLICS Colors, Ulta Beauty and Wella.
