Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday. He played 50 Tests, scoring 2914 runs and picking up 43 wickets.

Bangladesh’s T20I captain Mahmudullah Riyad on Wednesday announced his retirement from Test cricket at the age of 35. Mahmudullah will continue to play ODIs and T20I for the senior national team.

The all-rounder took to social media to announce his retirement from the longest format of the game. Mahmudullah hit 2914 runs in 50 Tests, including 5 hundreds and 16 fifties. He made his Test debut 2009 and played his last match during Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe in July 2021.

In fact, Mahmudullah was named Man of the Match as he registered his highest Test score of 150 not out in the Harare Test in 2021, which turns out to be his last match in whites.

“I am officially announcing my retirement from test cricket. I received the Man of the match award both in my debut & the last test match. Alhamdulillah, It has been a wonderful journey in test cricket. I would like to thank my family, teammates, coaches & BCB for their support,” Mahmudullah said in a Twitter post.

‘ALWAYS WANTED TO GO OUT ON A HIGH’

“Leaving a format of which I have been a part of for such a long time is not easy. I had always thought of going on a high and I believe this is the right time to end my test career,” Mahmudullah said.

He also picked up 43 wickets in a 12-year career.

“I thank my teammates and support staff for always encouraging me and believing in my ability. It has been an absolute honour and privilege to play test cricket for Bangladesh and I will cherish the many memories.”

Bangladesh take on Pakistan in the first game of a two-Test series in Chittagong from Friday.
