Aussie Post new warehouse covers eight football fields at Goodman estate

Australia Post has shored up its future processing business with the lease of a new warehouse that is the equivalent size of eight football fields and has the capacity to sort and send as many as 450,000 parcels per day.

Sitting next to the online shopping giant Amazon site – being the largest warehouse in the country and covers 24 rugby league fields – they are the new tenants at the Goodman Group and Brickworks $3 billion Oakdale West Industrial Estate in Kemps Creek, near Penrith.

Construction of the Australia Post site starts in January and is due to be completed in August. The $500 million Amazon warehouse is near completion and will open in the first three months of 2022.

The new centre cannot be built quick enough amid a warning last month by Australia Post’s chief executive Paul Graham that the upcoming Christmas period will be the “busiest in history” and that COVID-19 has created “significant challenges” in delivering parcels on time.

Fuelled by e-commerce demand, the 89-hectare Oakdale facility at Kemps Creek is larger than the Sydney suburb of Pyrmont and is a zoned, masterplan-approved fully serviced site. It sits on the doorstep of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis with access to the M7 and M4 motorways.

The ASX-listed industrial giant Goodman, with a market value of $45.75 billion, received planning approval for the mega-site in 2019. It will eventually be home to Coles, Woolworths, Telstra, and Xylem, all of which are requiring speed to market and easy access to consumers.

Goodman has invested $150 million in local infrastructure around Oakdale West and collaborated with Transport for NSW to provide greater public transport connectivity and Endeavour Energy to secure a new zone substation to the area.

Goodman Australia chief executive Jason Little said the unprecedented growth in warehousing and logistics over the last 18 months has created demand for high-quality industrial space in this pocket of Western Sydney.

“There are more than 4.4 million people with a digital spend of around $15.6 billion within an hour’s drive of the Oakdale estate, and it provides unrivalled access to this market,” Mr Little said.
