CEO Tim Cook on hiring
The slow pace of hiring was confirmed by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the last month’s earnings call. “We believe in investing through the downturn, and so we’ll continue to hire people and invest in areas, but we are being more deliberate in doing so in recognition of the realities of the environment,” Cook had said.
Apple job cuts: Second time in a decade
This is the second time in the past decade that Apple has cut jobs. A move termed rare by industry and analysts. In April 2016, the company sacked all of its contract recruiters. Aside from laying off all contract recruiters, Apple reportedly also reduced the number of full-time recruiters on staff.
Two weeks pay for terminated workers
Terminated contractors were reportedly told that they would receive pay and medical benefits for two weeks. The report further adds that employee badges were disabled and workers were told that they would need to email a list of their belongings if they wanted those items to be returned.
