iFixit calls iPhone 14 the most repairable iPhone in years because of its removable glass back. That allows for easier removal of the rear panel and fixing the rest of the phone if need be. However, there’s still a catch.

Apple has apparently improved the repairability of the iPhone 14 series according to iFixit. The popular American group of repair experts even goes as far as calling iPhone 14 the most repairable iPhone in years. Well, a bold claim that is. But it still doesn’t necessarily mean regular folks out there can open up and repair their iPhones by themselves. Here’s what makes iPhone 14 more repairable and what’s the catch.

iPhone 14 repairability: What makes it better than other iPhones?

iFixit in its teardown video shows how the iPhone 14 has got a removable glass back and this panel can be easily separated using just a heating mat, a suction handle, and an opening pick.

It explains that the rear panel is “simply secured with two screws and a single connector.” These screws can be taken out to access the screen.

Even the kind of glue used is less adhesive in order to be easily removed.

All that sounds good and so what’s the problem here? Well, not a problem per se but if you accidentally damage the glass panel in the process, that can be expensive to replace.

So, to avoid this affair, it is prudent to take the AppleCare+ insurance plan. In India, you get to opt for this when you buy the iPhone from the Apple Store. As for the cost attached with it, you are meant to pay ₹28,900 for the AppleCare+ on iPhone 14 Pro series and ₹21,900 for the AppleCare+ on iPhone 14 Plus. AppleCare+ on the regular iPhone 14 and previous iPhones like iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, and iPhone 12 models would cost you ₹17,900 while the AppleCare+ for iPhone SE (2022) would set you back by ₹8,900.
