Apple headset could launch by January 2023, claims analyst – Times of India
Apple’s mixed reality headset is “likely” to be launched by January 2023, noted tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed in a blog post. He said that the device could be a potential “game-changer for the headset industry” and that its launch will accelerate the growth of the headset sector.
“Although Apple has repeatedly reiterated its focus on AR, I believe Apple AR/MR supporting video see-thru could also offer an excellent immersive experience,” the tech analyst said. “Therefore, the launch of Apple AR/MR will further boost the demand for immersive gaming/multimedia entertainment.”
“After Apple launches AR/MR headset, I think Apple’s global rivals will compete to imitate it, leading the headset hardware industry to the next stage of rapid growth and benefiting the related services and content ecosystem,” he said.
He also added that the upcoming AR/MR headset is going to be the “most complicated product” from the tech giant.
Apple is said to be working on an Augmented Reality-based product for years now. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently had something to share on the AR/MR headset. The tech honcho, in an interview with China Daily, told Apple fans to: “stay tuned and you will see what we have to offer.” Cook said this in response to a question on what he thinks are the key things required for AR products to succeed in the consumer market.
To this, Cook responded by saying, “I am incredibly excited about AR as a technology. The critical thing of any technology, including AR, is to put humanity at the centre of it. And that is what we focus on everyday. Right now as an example we have over 14,000 ARKit apps in the App Store which provide AR experience to millions of people around the globe. But despite this, I think we are still in the very early stage of how this technology will evolve. I could not be more excited about the opportunities in this space and so stay tuned to see what we have to offer in this space.”
