apple: Apple tipped to launch first USB-C iPhone model next year – Times of India
Apple iPhone 15 series may be the first smartphone lineup from tech giant with USB-C charging port. As per a series of tweets by known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company may ditch the lightning port for USB-C port in 2023 iPhone models. “My latest survey indicates that 2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lightning port and switch to USB-C port. USB-C could improve iPhone’s transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.” Kuo wrote in a Twitter post.
Rumours around Apple adopting a USB-C port for iPhones have been in circulation for the past few years now. The tech giant has already made the switch in various iPad models. If the tweets from Kuo are true, then the iPhone 15 will mark the end of the Lightning connector as Apple’s primary charging cable after almost 13 years. Kuo also believes that the move will also help suppliers of the Apple ecosystem become the market’s focus in the next couple of years.
“It’s expected to see existing USB-C-related suppliers of Apple’s ecosystem (e.g., IC controller, connector) become the market’s focus in the next 1-2 years, thanks to vast orders from iPhones and accessories’ adoption of USB-C ports.” Kuo said in his tweet.
Although Apple is currently gearing up to launch the iPhone 14 series later this year, we have seen numerous reports about its successor. According to the leaks, Apple iPhone 15 may feature under-display Face ID feature that will help the company to get rid of the notch, Apart from this, the 2023 iPhone models are also rumoured to get periscope lens, under-display Touch ID and several other new features.
