Android 13 may borrow this feature from Samsung phones – Times of India

QR codes are everywhere. From making a quick digital payment to scanning the food menu at restaurants, they are both safe and efficient. Tech giant Google is reportedly taking another step to make the QR code sharing and scanning feature more seamless on Android phones.
According to a report by Android Police, the company may add the ability to launch QR code scans via the lock screen with Android 13 operating system. As per the ‘trusted source’, it could add a quick toggle button in the notification shade for the same. This means that users will be able to scan a QR code easily without having to unlock their device first.
For most versions of Android and Android skins, a user has to launch the camera app to scan a QR code at present. The camera app either automatically recognizes the code and gives you a prompt notification to open in the browser. Or in some cases, you may have to work with the camera’s UI to trigger a scan. But with Android 13, this may change. As Google will reportedly bring a QR scanner shortcut embedded into the lock screen itself.
The feature is already available for Samsung Galaxy users. In 2020, the South Korean company integrated Scan QR feature with camera and quick panel (notification shade for Samsung devices) for faster and easier access.
It is not clear though whether activating the QR Code scan option will launch a brand-new app/interface or if it simply takes you to the Google Lens app and scanning tool. But, the feature, if rolled out, will definitely come handy to many.
