Amazon is killing its cloud storage service ‘Drive’ – Times of India
Amazon is pulling down the shutters on its cloud storage service ‘Drive’, the company announced in an email to its customers, as per a report by 9To5Google. The cloud storage will shut down at the end of 2023 after starting its journey in 2011.
Beginning from December 31, 2023, all the Amazon Drive customers globally will no longer be able to view or download old content on the cloud service. Amazon Drive will stop supporting new uploads from January 31, 2023. Also, on October 31, 2022, the Amazon Drive app will be removed from the iOS and Android app stores.
All the existing Amazon drive customers worldwide are advised to download local copies of their data before the service expires.
“Over the last 11 years, Amazon Drive has served as a secure cloud storage service for Amazon customers to back up their files. On December 31, 2023, we will no longer support Amazon Drive to more fully focus our efforts on photos and video storage with Amazon Photos. We will continue to provide customers the ability to safely back up, share, and organize photos and videos with Amazon Photos.”, says the email, seen by 9To5Google.
However, the tech giant made it clear that Amazon Photos will not get affected by this shutdown and the services will continue as usual. “We will continue to provide customers the ability to safely back up, share, and organize photos and videos with Amazon Photos.”
“As an Amazon customer, your photos and videos in Amazon Drive have been automatically saved to Amazon Photos. After December 31, 2023 you can continue using Amazon Photos to access your photos and videos.”, said Amazon in its FAQ page.
