Akash Singh lifts the trophy of Colors’ reality show Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan. Here’s a candid chat
How was the winning moment?
It was surreal. Honestly, I couldn’t believe my ears. After the announcement I first thanked God, my parents and the audience who have all voted for me. All the other finalists were equally talented and had the potential of clinching the trophy.
How do you plan to utilise the winning prize of Rs 15 lakh?
I will ensure that my parents lead a secure life and they don’t have to struggle. I am also planning to buy a house for them in my village.
How do you feel your people will react to your winning?
Initially, when I left my place 4-5 years back, people used to taunt my parents and criticize me. But when I reached the finale there were applause and praise for me.
Apart from winning the title you have also found a sister in actress Parineeti Chopra. Tell us about her.
When I came to the show, I was very nervous. I had never seen such a big platform in my life. It was Parineeti ma’am who was my constant support. She also tied a rakhi to me. This relationship is going to last forever.
What did Parineeti say about your win?
She praised my efforts and told me that she was sure about my win and thanked me for not letting her down.
One person apart from parents who has been your pillar of strength?
I met this person called Uday Deshpande in Mumbai and he has been a great support. He helped me grow as a real artiste.
You have recently got hurt in the show while performing a stunt. Were you scared?
I am never scared while performing. Whenever I perform, I have full confidence in my practice. Yes, I got hurt in the show and I am healing currently.
What is your advice to the upcoming artistes?
Practice and more practice can make you a perfect artist. There is no alternative to that. Also, you should always come up with something new. I have learnt my craft in my village and used to practice for hours. There is no end to learning. One should explore and learn.
What’s your plan now?
I would like to work in Hindi films. Whatever I have achieved through Hunarbaaz, I don’t want to waste that.
