Accessorise it right
“A mask, a scarf and an umbrella are enough to ward off monsoon blues. Scarves are multi-wear ndash; they will save your hair from becoming frizzy, keep you warm when the aircon is too cold, stave off the monsoon winds and look gorgeous while doing it all. A silk bandana to give a pop of colour and verve to basic outfits. Whether worn in the hair, neck, wrist or even bag, it can add that touch of luxury and appeal.” —Vatsala Holani
Go white
There’s something so refreshing about the monsoon and Amrish is all for a bit of experimentation owing to the feel of it all. “Short dresses and loose fits are a sound choice this season. Stark whites always stand out with colourful and chic embroidery bringing out the pop required on a grey day. Just style it with a pair of gum boots for a required trip to shop essentials,” suggests Aparna Gupta, designer at Beachbum.
Comfort is the prime factor she says considering the time we are spending at home and white, she says, does perk up the look and mood. Aparna adds, “Invest in floral prints in cotton, a fabric that falls well and does not stick to the skin in humid weather. White is the colour for all moods and with its all-encompassing vibe, works brilliantly for the season.”
Be practical
For the days when you have a party to attend, Rachit Khanna of Turquoise says, “Monsoon fashion for me is about being at ease but being prepared for rains is equally important. Be fashionable but be practical too. Choose breathable fabrics like cotton, rayon and chambray to beat the humidity but keep it classy.”
On how to do that, he adds, “Culottes with trendy tees and a dark jacket for evenings make it perfect for a casual look. Pair it with sneakers and a cool transparent bag to look insta-fabulous. Instead of floor length, pick peek-a-boo ankle-length dresses.”
An assortment of flowy dresses, kaftans, suits and tops in breezy fabrics like cotton and chiffon is Amrish’s way to enliven up a rainy day. And in the must-haves, Rachit says, “It would be a cute skater dress, nice shorts and ankle-length jeans. I think it would also be great to invest in a fancy windcheater. Remember to carry a monsoon-friendly bag that has an extra outfit; you never know when the need may arise.” Going by Nida’s advice, “This monsoon, try the trapeze silhouette in lightweight to medium weight sustainable cottons in solid colours. This would be a good investment.
