400 CCTV cameras to be installed at AIIMS hostels to ensure safety – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be installing about 400 CCTV cameras in the hostels to monitor movement of outsiders and delivery boys in the campus, in view of security concerns.

A few months ago, several theft cases were reported in the hostels, following which a circular was issued by the administration in July banning entry of delivery agents and all students and resident doctors were instructed to collect their parcels/goods from the main gate personally.

However, the order was withdrawn later after resident doctors opposed the move because they had to travel to the main gate for collecting parcels after long hours of their duty in the hospital. They demanded installation of CCTV cameras for surveillance and security.

Acting on the resident doctors demand, the AIIMS administration has started the tendering process for purchasing and installing complete CCTV systems at the 25 hostels, including the nursing and trauma centre hostels.

As per available documents, bid opening date is November 21 and total 381 cameras will be installed including HP IP dome camera (38), HD IP bullet camera (324) and HD IP PTZ CCTV camera (19) along with network video recorder.

Appreciating the move, a senior resident said that unwanted happenings will be curtailed but administration should ensure that privacy of students and resident doctors especially women should not be compromised. They should keep the privacy of the students and doctors in mind while installing the cameras.

A senior administrative official said that cameras will be installed at entry, exit points and common areas. The aim of installing the camera is only for security, safety and access control and to avoid theft cases and it will ensure that the privacy of the residents is not compromised in any way.
