You may soon be able to delete Threads account without losing Instagram too – Times of India
It has been around 24 hours, and already more than 50 million people have hopped on to the Threads. Considering you were one of them, who loved the whole threading experience, but now want to get off the Threads? Well, the obvious move would be to delete your Threads account, but you can’t do that because that will also erase your whole existence from Instagram. So, perhaps deleting your profile is not the best option if you want to start anew or if Threads isn’t your cup of tea. What then?
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, shared on Threads that Meta is aware of the issue and is working on a solution to allow users to delete their Threads account independently.
“Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it’s just one account, but we’re looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately,” Mosseri said in a thread.
If you want to hide your profile and threads, you can deactivate your Threads account.
To deactivate your Threads profile, go to your profile tab, click the two lines icon for settings, select “Account,” choose “Deactivate profile,” and click the “Deactivate Threads profile” button. It is important to note that this will not deactivate your Instagram account. Also, it is a temporary action – while your profile, threads, replies, and likes will be hidden, your account will be reactivated once you log back in.
You can also set your profile to private, so only your followers can read your threads. Or else delete individual threads.
You can’t just simply sign up for a Threads account using an email or phone number. Although, you can use a different number or email address that is not connected to your Instagram account, keeping the two platforms separate.
In a different thread, Mosseri also confirmed that the company is working on bringing some of the missing features to the app. These include a “following” tab, hashtags, support for fediverse (a social network of different servers operated by third parties is how Meta explains it), and messaging capabilities.
