The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 launch date might be aligned with the date of unveiling of the company’s next generation Android ROM — MIUI 14. According to rumours, MIUI 14 could be unveiled on August 16, keeping in line with the company’s 12th anniversary celebrations. If Xiaomi does host an event to mark its 12th anniversary, this seems to be a good time to launch its next generation foldable phone and show off its innovations.

The company’s next generation foldable phone will seemingly offer a better display experience over its previous generation. According to reports, the internal folding display of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 will feature an 8.1-inch LTPO OLED display, with variable 120Hz refresh rate. The display will offer 2K screen resolution, with 21:9 aspect ratio. This could make the foldable phone shorter in height but wider in terms of its width when folded — which suggests that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 could also come with different dimensions.

Apart from this, Xiaomi is expected to unveil a new hinge design for added durability, and the smartphone could feature the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC from Qualcomm — along with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Reports also claim the presence of 67W fast charging — which the previous generation Mix Fold also offered.

However, it is unclear right now if the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 would be unveiled in markets outside China. The first generation phone, which was priced at up to CNY 12,999 (approx. Rs 1.54 lakh) in China, was never sold outside Xiaomi’s home market, and given that foldable phones still make for very limited shipping volumes, the company might be cautious before bringing it to other markets.

Hopefully, more details would become official with Xiaomi tipped to launch the device some time next month.
