‘Without donor blood’ in observance of World Blood Donor Day at KGMU and RMLIMS – ET HealthWorld
Lucknow: Blood units will be provided without a donor at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) and the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow in observance of World Blood Donor Day.
At RMLIMS, without donor blood will be available on Wednesday and Friday. The attendants of patients admitted in government hospitals will be able to take donor blood from the institute on the advice of the doctor.At the KGMU, blood of B and O positive groups will be available without a donor from Wednesday to June 28.
Blood bank in-charge RMLIMS, Dr VK Sharma said that though without donor blood is being provided to pregnant women in the institute, on blood donors day all the needy patients are being provided without donor blood as per the availability.
Head of the blood and transfusion medicine department KGMU, Prof Tulika Chandra, said that the patients admitted in the hospital will be provided blood on priority basis. They will have to bring the doctor’s prescription and blood sample. After that, they will be able to get blood from the blood bank.
In addition, MBBS students at the KGMU have formed a group called the Georgians to provide blood without a donor to patients in need. The Georgians paste leaflets in the departments at the KGMU with their mobile numbers. The attendants of patients can call them for help. The Georgians provide 500 to 700 units of blood every year.
