With over 3mil pre-registrations, free MMORPG Tower of Fantasy has set a global launch date
It was announced today that Tower of Fantasy (ToF), a free-to-play, open-world, multiplayer action RPG will launch globally on PC and mobile on August 10, 2022. Interested players can preload the game starting August 9.
To date, ToF has recorded over three million players who’ve signed up for the game on the official ToF website. Here’s what’s in store for future players of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).
Set in a post-apocalyptic world
What makes ToF exciting to the masses is that it’s been likened to games like Genshin Impact and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but subjectively better.
Though it’s said to follow a similar game style to these well-known titles, the new open-world game will also feature other elements and mechanics.
ToF is set in a post-apocalypse sci-fi anime future on a planet called Aida. To get around, players will use flying mechanics like jetpacks, and vehicles like motorcycles. Climbing, gliding, and swimming comprise other physics that characters can do in the game.
Characters will be fully customisable as well, and you can unlock pre-designed playable characters called simulacrums through a gacha system.
Based on beta gameplay, it seems that you can then opt to play as these characters (akin to your own customisable character wearing a skin) or simply equip their weapons.
When it comes to combat, the abilities of your character will be determined by the three weapons in your loadout that you’ll carry. Based on older gameplay, there appear to be over 10 types of weapons at your disposal.
In true MMORPG style, combat will also happen in the shared world with other players. As long as you’re in the same area, and on the same server as other players, you’ll get to play and fight enemies together.
ToF’s global release is taking place after two closed beta tests where fans got a sneak peek at the build.
What are fans saying?
There’s no doubt about the significant hype around ToF. Commenters online have expressed their excitement about the customisability of the characters, and how ToF’s gameplay might focus more heavily on combat, as opposed to story.
But that’s not to say that ToF will forgo a narrative. The game already seems to be teasing at a story in a way that merges our IRL world into that of Aida.
Recently, fans noticed something strange happening on ToF’s official Twitter; it sent a mysterious garbled message on July 26, causing some to believe maybe the account was hacked.
But keen-eyed fans noticed a hidden morse code in the message which depicts a blinking logo, which led them to decode the information behind the GIF.
According to ToF’s team, the cause of the secret message was a hint that the game’s Omnium tower was being disturbed, spinning the official account in our world out of control.
The message can be said to be a hint to fans that the world of Aida is beginning to open up, suggesting the launch of the game to be anticipated soon (which, true enough, is happening).
ToF is still open for pre-registration on its official site, as well as on Steam, Epic Games Store, the App Store, and Google Play.
