Microsoft was rumoured to be working on a cross-platform version of its Microsoft Defender client. The WebView version of the Microsoft security tool is expected to arrive on Windows 10, macOS, Android and iOS operating systems.
The WebView version of the client is expected to feature a customisable dashboard and allow users to keep a tab on security status of Windows devices and other connected devices.
WindowsLatest has reported that the company has now released the early preview of the Windows Defender, which confirms several details related to the tool.
According to the report, the Windows Defender WebView will first rollout to Windows Insider Preview users and then it will make it to the final version. Also, the Windows Defender Preview is currently available in the US and not many features are currently functional on the preview version.
WindowsLatest has also confirmed that the new version of Windows Defender won’t replace the existing version that we get on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Also, the new Defender tool will only act as a dashboard for devices instead of offering malware and virus protection to the device it is being accessed on.
Reports also claim that the Windows Defender preview will let users add family members to the dashboard and connect their devices to access all the security information related to connected devices at one place.
As of now, there’s no official release date available for the Windows Defender. It is expected to arrive with future Windows updates.
