Windows 11 Notepad to get this useful feature as per Microsoft employee | Digit

A Microsoft employee accidentally tweeted about the development of tabs for Notepad App on Twitter. He quickly deleted the tweet, but now we know about this Windows 11 Notepad feature.

A senior product manager working at Microsoft revealed to the world on Twitter that the Notepad app is getting a tabs feature in Windows 11. He tweeted a photo of a version of Notepad with tabs, and unofficially announced, “Notepad in Windows 11 now has tabs!” with a loudspeaker emoji.

He was quick to delete this tweet with “confidential” information. But it did not go unnoticed by Windows Central and other windows enthusiasts who were quick to catch this mistake. There has been no official confirmation from the company on this matter.

The screenshot of the Notepad also came with an internal warning by Microsoft which said, “Confidential Don’t discuss features or take screenshots.” This means that the tabs feature is still in the internal testing phase at Microsoft. The Verge speculates that the Notepad tabs feature may be released to Windows Insiders somewhere in early 2023.

Microsoft originally tested the tabs feature across all Windows apps and this feature was called Sets. This even included support for tabs inside Notepad and File Explorer but was eventually shelved and not shipped to Windows 10 users.

Earlier this year, Microsoft added tabs to File Explorer. If tabs are included in the Notepad App, then it will be one useful feature that Windows users will appreciate.

Windows 11 comes as the latest major release of Microsoft’s Windows NT operating system. It was released in October 2021 and comes as a predecessor to Windows 10. Windows 11 upgrade is available for free to any Windows 10 device if it meets the system requirements of Windows 11. It is available in a whopping 110 languages.
