Wimbledon 2022: Furious Nick Kyrgios smashes ball out of court, accuses crowd of ‘racial slurs’ – Watch

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios was left furious once again, during his opening match in Wimbledon 2022 against Paul Jubb on Court 3 as he was seen smashing the ball out of the court in frustration and later accused the crowd for using “racial slurs” against him.

This isn’t the first time Kyrgios has been vocal about racism as he had claimed a similar during his match against Andy Murray at the Stuttgart Open earlier this month which led to an investigation as well.

On Tuesday, in his first-round game at the tournament, against British wildcard Jubb, Kyrgios complained about the crowd before calling a linesman a “snitch”. He then received a warning for smashing a ball out of the court after he was broken serve in the first set of the match which he eventually lost 3-6. And he later claimed that he was racially abused during the second set of the game.

“You have to tell them,” he told umpire Marija Cicak. “They’re spectators. They don’t have any right to do that. They’re spectators who spend money to come watch us play. They should be removed.

“I don’t go up to their face in their 9-5 and tart clapping when they’re scanning s*** at a supermarket. They have no right to do that so why does it keep happening?”

He further told the umpire that he was racially abused for complaining against the crowd. He said: “You should just remove them from the crowd.

“So pure disrespect from a spectator to an athlete is acceptable at Wimbledon? But you don’t accept a hat with two logos? When’s the line? That’s acceptable, racism is acceptable so when does it stop? So where’s the line?

“It’s been happening for years. If they were making racial slurs to him [Jubb] I would say the same thing.”

Kyrgios however bounced back to win the second set.
