Valpoi: Health minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane said that strict action will be taken against those private hospitals that send their critically ill patients to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital.
He said that some private hospitals treat patients until they become critically ill and then when they are in the last stage, refer them to the GMC. This, he said, puts pressure on the GMC staff and is wrong on the part of private hospitals.
“Strict action will be taken against such hospitals if they send patients to the GMC after draining them financially,” said Rane.
The health minister was speaking at the mega medical camp held at Khotodem, Sattari, on Sunday.
He also issued a warning to private hospitals refusing to treat Covid patients. “Strict action under the Clinical Establishment Act will be taken against private hospitals refusing to admit Covid patients, and their licences will also be suspended.”
“People should get good medical treatment both in government and private hospitals,” said Rane. He added that the government is bringing medical facilities to people’s doorsteps by way of health camps.
