One of the most popular sites on the internet is Wikipedia. For years, Wikipedia has retained the same look and feel. But now Wikipedia is getting a new look. “For the first time in over ten years, Wikipedia is getting a new look. A series of improvements to Wikipedia’s desktop interface will make the site easier to use and more welcoming for readers and contributors alike,” said Wikimedia Foundation, the body behind Wikipedia. These are some of the changes that will appear on Wikipedia
Users will be able to read content in multiple languages
Wikimedia Foundation says that language-switching tools are now placed more prominently. Multilingual readers and editors can more easily find their preferred language and switch between over 300 languages as needed.
A better reading experience
Wikipedia articles will now have a maximum line width. “Research has shown that limiting the width of long-form text leads to a more comfortable reading experience, and better retention of the content itself,” noted Wikimedia Foundation.
There’s a new sidebar
Wikipedia has added a new collapsible sidebar. This will users to collapse the lengthy menu found on the left side of each article, helping them see the information they need without distraction.
Users will now have to scroll less
There’s an updated header that will move with you as you scroll. “You will no longer need to scroll to the top of the page to find what you are looking for, and you can focus on reading and editing instead,” said Wikimedia Foundation.
A better search experience
Wikipedia has improved the search functionality with images and descriptions, which makes it easier for users to find articles on Wikipedia.
New table of contents
There’s a new table of contents which helps users know which section they are currently reading. Further, it also remains visible as one scrolls down the page, making it easier to navigate to various sections.
