White Ferns beat Windies in World Cup warm-up game

Maddy Green and Brooke Halliday led a White Ferns fightback as they beat the West Indies by 32-runs in their T20 World Cup warm-up game in Cape Town.

After being put into bat first New Zealand slumped to 56 for four in the 12th over with Bernadine Bezuidenhout dismissed for three, Georgia Plimmer for seven, Amelia Kerr for two and Suzie Bates 30.

Green and Halliday then put on 56 inside eight overs, helping their side reach a score of 123 for five.

Green top-scored with an unbeaten 47 off 37 balls, while Halliday made 24.

The White Ferns bowlers then claimed two wickets in the West Indies Powerplay with opener Hayley Matthews caught of Eden Carson for 15 and Rashada Williams caught off Hayley Jensen for five.

Shemaine Campbelle’s 26 and Chinelle Henry’s 23 gave the West Indies a chance at completing the chase, though New Zealand were crafty particularly with their spin in slow conditions.

Amelia Kerr’s leg-breaks tightened the screws with 3/20, as the West Indies finished on 91/7.

New Zealand again played without captain Sophie Devine who is recovering from a foot injury.

Their next warm-up game is against England tomorrow night while their opening game of the World Cup is against Australia on Sunday.

In their respective warmup games against scored 246 for seven in beating South Africa by 17 runs and Australia beat India by 44 runs.
