When Rishi Kapoor asked Ranbir Kapoor to ‘settle down’ and have kids: ‘Want time with my grandchildren before I am gone’

As fans and Bollywood celebrities are sending congratulatory messages to Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, let us look back at the time when Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor talked about having grandkids. Rishi died in 2020 and just two years before his death, during an interview he said that it is his last wish to ‘spend time’ with Ranbir’s kids. Rishi was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018 and went to New York City for treatment. After a two-year battle with the disease, Rishi died in April 2020 at the age of 68.

In an interview with Mid-day in 2018, Rishi said, “It is high time he got married. I settled down when I was 27, and Ranbir is 35. So he should think about marriage. He can marry anyone of his choice; we don’t have any objection to it. I want to spend time with my grandchildren before I am gone.”

On Monday, Alia announced her pregnancy by sharing a picture of herself and Ranbir from their sonography session. Sharing the photo, Alia wrote, “Our baby ….. coming soon.” In the photo, a happy Alia is seen looking at the sonography monitor.

Alia and Ranbir had been dating for five years before they tied the knot on April 14 this year. The very intimate celebration was attended only by close friends and family. Those on the guest list included his cousin Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Armaan Jain, Aadar Jain, her sister Pooja Bhatt, filmmakers Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji.

Alia and Ranbir will soon be seen together onscreen for the first time in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra. The film is scheduled to release on September 9, 2022. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.
