Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor have often fondly spoken of the bond they share with each other. The sisters also repeatedly said there are no chances of sibling rivalry between them or chances of being competitors in the film industry. However, there was one occasion when Kareena complained about the love her elder sister received from their grandfather Raj Kapoor as compared to her. Raj Kapoor died in 1988 when Karisma Kapoor was 13 and Kareena was seven. In an interview, Kareena said that the veteran actor shared a special bond with Karisma and that she used to feel left out because of it.

Asked if she has memories of him, Kareena told Simi Garewal in 2002, “Of course. Definitely, I do. But I have to be very honest, he loved my sister much more than he loved me.” When asked why she always complains about it and what made her feel this way, Kareena explained, “I think my sister has the blue eyes that he had. At least what I can remember, she used to get all the presents and all the chocolates.”

Recalling one such example of Karisma and Raj’s bond, Kareena said, “He used to love mangoes, and he used to store them in his fridge. And no one was allowed to go to his room except for Lolo (Karisma) and eat all the mangoes. And I was always left out, and never got even one.” Kareena agreed that it might have been this way because she was very young and Raj couldn’t communicate with her in the way he did with Karisma, who was seven years older than her. She added that she loved him a lot.”

Kareena will be next seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, an adaptation of Tom Hanks-starrer Forrest Gump. The Aamir Khan-starrer is scheduled for theatrical release on August 11. She will also be making her OTT debut with Sujoy Ghosh’s adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X, which also stars Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat.
