When Kangana Ranaut’s dad wanted her to become doctor and not Miss India: ‘Didn’t bother me’

Actor Kangana Ranaut is one of the most popular faces in Bollywood who created her niche in the industry from scratch. However, her journey to stardom wasn’t a cakewalk. She went from being a small-town girl to one of the most bankable actors, even against the wishes of her parents. In an old interview with Simi Garewal, Kangana had revealed she wanted to become Miss India while growing up. However, her father dreamt of making her a doctor, which was shattered when Kangana started modelling while studying in Chandigarh. She kept it from her parents for quite some time.

In Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Kangana Ranaut’s father in a video clip said, “Woh bachpan me humesha bola karti thi mai Miss India banungi. Toh hum log mazak karte they. Waise ajeeb sa lagta tha ye soch kar ke…ya sun ke…ki kya banegi. Waise hum usko doctor banana chahate they (Kangana talked about becoming Miss India in childhood and we used to laugh about it. It used to feel weird because we didn’t know what she would become in future. We wanted her to be a doctor.)

Kangana chimed in, “Every time some guest used to come (home), they used to ask me ‘so what do you want to be?’ I used to say Miss India. They used to laugh at me like I said something weird, you know. Then I stopped it when I became 14 or 15. If somebody asked me what do you want to be. I’d say doctor.” To this, Simi went on to ask her, “Did it bother you that they didn’t encourage your dream?” She replied, “No it didn’t because I come from a very very simple…like you see my father…They are very nice, honest, innocent people. I realised it’s not like they don’t want to help me, it’s just that they cannot help me.”

Kangana was last seen in Udaipur where she is likely to ring in her birthday. She was last seen in Dhakaad, which couldn’t perform well at the box office. Currently, she is looking forward to the release of her upcoming film Emergency. She also has Chandramukhi 2, Tejas, Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda and The Incarnation: Sita in the pipeline.
