WhatsApp Community feature is in development; Here’s how it could work – Smartprix
WhatsApp is working to bring a Community feature into its messaging platform. A WhatsApp Community will reportedly have sub-groups. This feature will turn the current group admins into community admins with increased rights and controls over how a community, as well as the groups within it, would function.
WhatsApp Community Feature
Earlier in October, XDADevelopers shared a bit of speculation on the arrival of the Community feature to WhatsApp. Now, WABetaInfo has shared clearer references to shed light on the said feature.
As per the report, the community feature will allow group admins to have more customized controls over WhatsApp groups. The admins would be able to create groups within communities, send messages to the groups, and share a ‘Community Invite Link’ to add new members. WABetaInfo notes that community chats will be end-to-end encrypted as well.

A community can be either a group or an aggregation of several groups to create a private place. For an instance, Smartprix can be a community and the listed category of products are considered as groups of this community.
As far as layout design is concerned, the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo reveals a minor change. The Community icon would be squircle-shaped. It is also believed that WhatsApp could offer some tool to the admins to manage the community and groups in a better way but there’s no further information on it.

There is a fair chance that Facebook-owned WhatsApp might just replace ‘group’ with ‘community’ and add a few enhanced features as part of the upgrade. While said community feature is still in the development phase and there’s no official confirmation, and until that happens, it is advised to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.
