WhatsApp calls from international numbers can be dangerous: How to stay safe – Times of India

0

If you have been receiving calls from international numbers on WhatsApp, then you are not alone. Several WhatsApp users in India have been getting calls from unknown international numbers. These calls include both audio and video calls. Most of these calls come from phone numbers that start with +62 (Indonesia), +254(Kenya), +251 (Ethiopia) and +60 (Malaysia).
Why these international calls are dangerous
These WhatsApp calls are dangerous and it is advisable that users do not answer them. If you are getting such calls, it very likely means that you are being targeted by scammers. This makes it critical that you not answer such calls. Many of these calls are part of international scams. If you respond to these calls or messages on WhatsApp, the person on the other side is most likely to offer a job that sounds promising and requires you to do little. The scammers pretend to be from a reputed company offering part-time jobs that can be carried out from home.
In most cases, they gain people’s confidence by initially offering them a small reward for completing certain “task/tasks”. These sometimes include something as simple as liking YouTube videos. Once the user gets their money, they are promised higher returns and made to bet more money and end up losing all. Work from home scams are currently one of the biggest in the country and have claimed hundreds of victims who have lost lakhs of rupees.
What users getting these international calls need to do
WhatsApp users receiving such calls need to make sure that they do not respond to such calls. It is better to block all such numbers. In case you happen to respond to any such call do make sure that you do not believe any of what the person on the other side is promising. Remember nothing in this world comes for free.
