WhatsApp Avatars reportedly releases to beta testers: How to use it | Digit

Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp seems to be on a never-ending spree of adding new features. Most recently, the platform rolled out quick emoji reactions for responding to statuses quickly. Now, the app seems to be working on another feature that adds a personal touch to communications that take place on it. The feature is called Avatars and is already available on other social media platforms by Meta.

WhatsApp Avatars: What is it and how to use it

As per a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is rolling out the ability to set up Facebook-like customisable Avatars. The report says avatars are a new way to “personalise your identity by setting up a digital expression within WhatsApp Settings.” However, the feature is available to some beta testers at the moment on WhatsApp beta for Android, v2.22.23.9. Since the feature is similar to that on Facebook and Instagram, users should be asked to create their digital Avatar first.

Once users set up their Avatar, the app also creates a personalised sticker pack. As the feature rolls out to everyone, WhatsApp users can also set up a digital avatar as their profile image. To check whether the feature is available, users may head to the Settings section of the app and see whether a new option called Avatar is available or not. It is important to remind users that the feature is only available for some users on the beta version of the app for Android. It is not available to beta testers on WhatsApp for iOS yet.

Instagram and Facebook already allow users to set up their Avatars

Avatars seem to be the next big thing after emojis and GIFs, primarily because users can customise their avatars and make them look exactly like them. Hence, avatars add a personal touch to the conversation and can be used in multiple scenarios. For instance, Instagram allows users to respond to Stories using avatars. Similarly, when the feature comes out to WhatsApp, they should also be able to reply to other’s statuses using an avatar.
