West Bengal Governor slams state govt for supporting TMC MLAs who allegedly prevented governor from leaving the house

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and state government are at loggerheads again, with the Governor slamming the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for supporting the women Trinamool MLAs, who allegedly prevented the Governor from leaving the House, on March 7. The BJP had created ruckus inside the assembly and obstructed the Governor to read his opening speech.

Ruckus broke out in the West Bengal Assembly on the first day of the Budget Session as Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) MLAs, led by LoP Suvendu Adhikari, protested inside the House, before the inaugural speech of the Governor, raising slogans in the well of the House against the state government over violence in the Municipal polls. The Governor even tried to leave the house several times amid the ruckus but stayed back following requests by the Chief Minister and the Speaker. On the third time, when he attempted to leave, the Trinamool MLAs, including Chandrima Bhaatcharya and Sashi Panja, obstructed his path.

The Governor today, uploading a video from a different programme on Women’s Day where Mamata Banerjee praised the women MLAs on March7 at the assembly, slammed the Chief Minister in twitter, claiming, “There can be no justification to sanctify, much less applaud, ‘gherao/blockade’ of Guv in the hallowed precincts of august WBMLA. Reflect. Where are we heading!”

The Governor could not start his inaugural speech for more than an hour and requested the LoP Suvendu Adhikari to allow him to deliver his speech, following the cultural heritage of the assembly and the country. Despite repeated requests by the Speaker Biman Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar- the Opposition party did not pay heed and stop their protests. The trio urged the Opposition to allow the Governor to deliver his opening speech and the Speaker asked the officials to distribute the speech of the Governor to all the members of the house.

“The Governor is under pressure. It is a game plan played by him along with BJP, in the assembly on that day. He must be under pressure from higher authority and now tweeting against the Chief Minister,” Kunal Ghosh said.

Meanwhile, the Governor also called upon Speaker Biman Banerjee to Raj Bhawan. However, Speaker Biman Banerjee declined to meet WB Governor citing ongoing Assembly Session. The Speaker said, “the Governor’s letter is biased & politically motivated.”
