NEW DELHI: Team India went down fighting against Australia in the first semi final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town on Thursday.
Meg Lanning and co. won the nail biter by 5 runs as Australia marched into their seventh successive final.
The India Women were in control of the 173 chase but match turned on its head in the 15th over when the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who was batting on 52 at that time, got involved in an unlucky and untimely run out.
On the fourth ball of the 15th over, Harmanpreet slog-swept Georgia Wareham to deep mid-wicket as Ashleigh Gardner dived at the fence, stopped the ball and threw it back to the keeper.
It was an easy two and it looked like Harmanpreet would completely make her way back at the striker’s end. But then at the last split second, when Harmanpreet tried to ground her bat, it stuck just in front of the crease.
Thinking on her feet, keeper Alyssa Healy whipped the bails off in a flash and replays confirmed that it was curtains for Harmanpreet.
A livid India skipper, on her way back to the dug out, smashed her bat into the ground over her untimely run out.

The social media also went ablaze as fans compared Harmanpreet’s run out to MS Dhoni, who also got run out against New Zealand at a crucial juncture of the match during the 2019 men’s ODI world Cup.

The Harmanpreet run out eventually turned out to be the deciding factor of the match as from that moment India lost the momentum and eventually fell 5 runs short of the target.
