Watch: Dinesh Karthik engages in hilarious banter with Ricky Ponting, Mark Taylor in commentary box | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Dinesh Karthik seems to be enjoying his commentary stint in Ashes series with the Indian wicket-keeper taking a dig at former Australian skippers and commentators Ricky Ponting and Mark Taylor during the Day 4 of the fifth Test at The Oval on Sunday.

The two Australian greats were lavishing praise on Usman Khawaja and David Warner for giving visitors a brilliant start in their pursuit of 384 but Karthik was quick to remind them what happened during 2009 Ashes series.

“The two Australian commentators here going gaga over how well Australia are going. Here is a moment though, that happened a few Ashes ago. Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey had put on a partnership of 127 before this happened. What happened after that, I think it is best Ricky explains. They lost the Test and the Ashes post that,” Karthik said as Ponting and Taylor burst into laughter
But Ponting and Taylor also decided to give it back to Karthik saying: “Gee have a bit of that, there you go. Dinesh Karthik’s become an honorary Englishman overnight hasn’t he?” said Taylor. “Just making sure he has a contract next year, isn’t he? Locking himself in the Sky box. Good work DK,” Ponting added.
In a memorable moment during the 5th Test at The Oval, Ricky Ponting, who was batting brilliantly at 66, found himself in a regrettable run-out situation. The Australian skipper had formed a formidable 127-run partnership for the 3rd wicket with Michael Hussey.
It was a young Andrew Flintoff who exhibited remarkable fielding skills. When Hussey called for a quick single, Ponting responded eagerly, but the decision proved to be ill-fated. Flintoff swooped in with lightning speed, gathering the ball and delivering a precise throw to the striker’s end.
