NEW DELHI: The wait is now set to get over to renew the Border-Gavaskar Trophy rivalry with India locking horns against Australia in the opening Test of the four-match series on Thursday in Nagpur.
The series holds the key for premier Indian batter Virat Kohli, who would look to end his three-year century drought in Test cricket. Kohli loves the rivalry against the Aussies in the longest format of the game as he played some of his career-best knocks against them.
Ahead of the series opener on Wednesday, Kohli took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the past series against Australia. “Running into BGT starting tomorrow ??. Always a exciting series to be a part of,” he tweeted.

In 20 Tests and 36 innings, Virat has scored 1,682 runs against the mighty Aussies at an average of 48.05. He has scored seven tons and five fifties against Australia with the best score of 169.
Kohli has roared back to form in ODIs and T20Is but is yet to score a ton in Test matches since November 2019 when he slammed a ton against Bangladesh in Day-Night Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri is confident that Kohli’s near 50 average in Tests against Australia will spur him on and if he gets going in the first couple of innings, he would spell doom for the Australians.
“His (Kohli’s) record against Australia would spur him on. He would be charged up and want to start well. You should look at his first two innings. If he gets off to a start, he would be a thorn in flesh for Aussies. They would for sure won’t want that to happen.”
