Venkatesh Pande says playing Bajirao Ballal in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal is like living in another era

Portraying Bajirao in the show is quite a big break. Are you under pressure?

For me, playing the lead protagonist for the first time, especially portraying such a great character, does add a little pressure. But I am working hard to be able to do justice to the character and I am learning new things about Bajirao and the Maratha empire every day.

What’s your take on historical shows?

The most exciting thing about doing a historical show is that we get to live and experience a different era. To live and breathe the culture and heritage of India in such extraordinary times is absolutely thrilling.

Walk us through the research and training that you went through to be able to play the character Bajirao?

I did my own research by searching on the web and reading history books. Furthermore, we were taught specific skills like horse riding and sword fighting by experts and professionals before the shoot began. So yes, it took a lot to prepare for this character and every moment of it has been so fulfilling and rewarding.

How has been your experience of shooting so far?

The experience so far has been amazing! Every morning I wake up with new zeal and enthusiasm to come on the sets. The credit definitely goes to the incredible cast and crew present on the sets. Everyone is so warm and friendly.

How is your bonding with co-actors Aarohi Patel and others?

Aarohi is such a focused and sincere actor. Whenever we do our scenes, I can see how in-depth she goes about the smallest of details. So, it’s a wonderful friendship that we share and sharing screen space with her is really exciting.

What, according to you, is the mantra of success?

I believe success comes from hard work. For me, when I try new things and it works out well, I feel empowered and confident and other times when things do not work out the way you want them to, it’s possible to feel weak at times but if you put in the necessary efforts then you will succeed.

How are you juggling between studies and shooting?

My school authorities have been extremely supportive and with the pandemic, our classes are all online. So, I don’t miss my main subjects. I take my online classes in the morning and shoot for the rest of the day.

How do you commute to the sets, considering it’s out of Mumbai?

We are currently staying with the entire crew in Karjat and shooting for Kashibai Bajirao Ballal at the beautiful ND Studio where it feels like you have opened a history book and entered another era.

Why is working on TV appealing to you?

We are visible to every household in our country, that’s what makes it very appealing.
