Upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 & Exynos 2300 chipsets have deep concerns about power efficiency deterioration – Smartprix

Qualcomm and Exynos are all set to come up with their next SoCs in line, namely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the Exynos 2300. Now, a report has come up which claims to give first-hand details about the performance characteristics of these two new chipsets.

According to the report, these two chipsets will face power efficiency deterioration. The Arm Cortex X3- which is expected to be installed in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Exynos 2300, and Dimensity 10000 will apparently be less powerful and efficient than the Arm Cortex -X2 which came in their predecessors. The information was posted on Meeco which is why it is being given some weightage.

Although the AI performance is said to have improved considerably, processing performance has seen minute improvement. This is because the Cortex X3 offers slightly better performance than the Cortex X2, but the power efficiency is 10% worse at frequencies above 3.0GHz.

The AI performance is the only area that has gotten better with doubled efficiency of Cortex X3 over Cortex X2.

The post also mentions that Qualcomm is working seriously on developing its first in-house CPU core to replace the Cortex X Series and it might get functional by 2024. MediaTek has no such plans. For now, all this information is about chipsets that are in a nascent stage, so take this information with a grain of salt.
