For south-east Asia, Travis Kalanick was forced to tweak the model and take properties on lease instead of buying them. Even in his next idea, the underlying premise was similar to the cab-hailing venture — from cabs for hire, he was now offering cloud kitchens on hire. In 2018, Kalanick invested USD150 million in Los Angeles-based City Storage Systems, which provided kitchen space to catering businesses, and this became the first milestone
