Two Xiaomi mini smartphones with Snapdragon 870 tipped to launch soon | 91mobiles.com
Xiaomi and its sub-brand Redmi have been gearing up for a couple of smartphone launches for December and early 2022. The upcoming Xiaomi 12 is likely going to be the first smartphone with the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset. Now, according to a new report (via GizmoChina), two mini Xiaomi smartphones are reportedly in making. The upcoming compact Xiaomi phones could launch in the next few months.
Xiaomi’s interest in developing a mini smartphone isn’t all that surprising. When Apple introduced their compact-sized smartphone, in iPhone 12 Mini, the Chinese brand was quite interested in this compact design and form factor. Naturally, the rumour mill believed there would soon be a mini Xiaomi phone as well. However, ASUS beat Xiaomi to the punch by bringing ZenFone 8 to the market.
GizmoChina reports that the two mini smartphones from Xiaomi with model numbers L3 and L3A could be launching soon. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing also hinted at possible small-screen flagship phones coming soon. The Redmi executive took to Weibo to hint that MIUI 13 launch is not far behind. Another one of his posts on Weibo talked about a small-screen smartphone, which is now believed to be one of the Xiaomi Mini phones.
Presently, there’s not much information regarding the rumoured two mini Xiaomi phones. The MIUI code of the two upcoming mini phones further suggests that they will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. Rumours also suggest the Xiaomi Mini with the model number L3 will have a 6.3-inch display.
However, that would make it a regular sized-phone, which contradicts the earlier rumours. Reports also speculate this could be a foldable phone with a clamshell design. Since there’s no concrete information about the two alleged mini Xiaomi phones, it’s best to take all these reports and rumours with a pinch of salt.
