Hyderabad: The Telangana State Medical Council has cracked the whip against two doctors by removing them from the medical register for a period of three and six months and taking away their permanent registration certificate for the duration of punishment.

In the first instance, Dr Ch Srikanth was found guilty of misconduct as he had failed to refer a patient to a higher centre and neglecting his duties. He was accorded punishment for three months under the Indian Medical Council (professional conduct, etiquette and ethics) Regulations 2002.

In the second case, Dr Karan M Patel was found to have performed a surgery on the wrong foot of a patient. He was punished for the gross misconduct under the same rules.

The decision to strip Dr Patel of his registration for six months and strike him off the medical register for the same period was taken by the general body of the council.

Both doctors have, however, been informed that they have the right to file an appeal to the National Medical Commission within 60 days under the IMC regulations.
