Twitter’s traffic tumbles as Meta’s new app soars – Times of India

0

It hasn’t been a good last few days for Twitter and Elon Musk. There’s a new rival on the block in the form of Threads, which seems to have really taken off. If that wasn’t a cause of concern, then latest numbers suggest that Twitter’s traffic is tanking.
Cloudflare CEO posted a thread with a graph with DNS data that shows Twitter has been on a downward spiral. Since the start of July 2023, user traffic on Twitter has been going down. In the last week of July, Twitter seems to have hit its lowest-ever numbers in the last six months or so.
The rise and rise of Threads
Meta’s answer to Twitter arrived last week and has been on fire in terms of gaining users/downloads. It is touching close to 100 million downloads and looks like a genuine rival to Twitter in terms of offerings.
A report by Sensor Tower reveals that Indians have downloaded the Threads app the most in the world. The data reveals that on day one most downloads came from India. Around 22% of the total downloads were from India, followed by Brazil and the US, which had 16% and 14% downloads respectively. On day one, as per the data, 25% of the downloads were on iOS whereas the remaining 75% were on Android.
The integration with Instagram certainly seems to have helped. As long as you have an Instagram account, you don’t need a separate account. As soon as you download Threads and open it, it will automatically show your Instagram handle to log in. There’s no password needed as long as you’ve Instagram on your phone and are logged in.
Meanwhile, Twitter had put in limits on users on the number of tweets they could read in a day. The company had said this was to ensure that no data scraping is done from the platform. It’s not clear whether the limit still exists or not.
