Twitter temporarily limits how many tweets you can see – Times of India

Last evening, several users complained of being unable to read tweets, reading the message, “Rate Limit Exceeded,” assuming that the microblogging platform has gone down. Apparently, they reached the new rate limit set by Musk and Co., which limits most users to viewing 1,000 tweets a day (as of Musk’s recent tweet).
Twitter has implemented stricter limits on the number of tweets users can view daily. Musk announced on Saturday that unverified accounts can only view 600 posts per day, while new accounts are limited to 300 tweets daily. Verified accounts, on the other hand, can access up to 6,000 posts per day.
Why the restrictions on reading tweets
According to Musk, the restrictions were implemented temporarily to counter “extreme levels of data scraping” from “several hundred organisations” and “system manipulation.”
On Friday, Musk expressed his concern about the aggressive scraping of Twitter data by numerous organisations. This practice has been so extensive that it has negatively impacted the user experience, said Musk.
According to Musk, companies using large amounts of data to train artificial intelligence language models are to blame. “Almost every company doing AI, from startups to some of the biggest corporations on Earth, was scraping vast amounts of data.” He finds it frustrating that his team has to urgently bring a large number of servers online just to cater to the excessive demands of some AI startups seeking outrageous valuations.
Musk later announced that these limits would soon be eased to 8,000 for verified accounts and 800 for non-Twitter Blue users. As of now, the rate limit is 10,000, 1,000, and 500 tweets, for Blue, non-Blue, and newly registered users, respectively.
Earlier this week, Twitter started blocking non-logged-in users from seeing tweets. Musk said that this restriction, similar to the usage limit, is only temporary and has also been implemented in response to data scrapers.
