TuneCore strikes partnership with ByteDance-owned video platform Douyin – Music Business Worldwide
Believe-owned DIY digital music distributor TuneCore has struck a partnership with China-based social video platform, Douyin.
Douyin is a sister app of TikTok for the Chinese market. Both apps are owned by Beijing-based tech giant ByteDance.
Douyin claims to have an audience of over 600 million active daily users.
The app allows users to record 15-second videos while offering discovery features like the ‘For You’ feed, as well as in-app shopping and livestreaming.
In the Chinese market Douyin claims to be the No.1 in short-video app in terms of monthly active users, and ranks No.2 in all social networking sites, behind WeChat.
Today’s news follows TuneCore’s partnership with TikTok rival, YouTube Shorts, in May 2021, which saw TuneCore provide music for the short-form video platform.
In November 2021, TuneCore introduced ‘Social Platforms’, a service for artists to distribute their music directly into the music libraries of social media platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Reels.
At the time, TuneCore described its service as “a first of its kind,” whereby artists can distribute their music to social media networks “as a pre-step” to releasing music to streaming and download platforms.
TikTok launched a music distribution platform yesterday (Mar 9).
“By adding Douyin to our suite of digital store and streaming partners, TuneCore continues to offer more ways for independent artists to find fans from around the world.”
