Trinamool leadership strategises on uniting opposition parties

0
The Trinamool Congress leadership on Thursday held a meet in New Delhi to chalk out a strategy to unite the opposition parties on the Pegasus issue, both inside and outside Parliament, and on how to take the protests forward.

Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee held a closed-door meeting with poll strategist Prashant Kishor and held a separate meeting with the party MPs, ahead of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s three-day visit to New Delhi starting July 27, where she will meet opposition leaders.

She will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I have received appointment from the PM. I will meet him and, if possible, also visit President Ramnath Kovind.”

Trinamool Congress sources said Thursday’s meeting was crucial as Mamata Banerjee intended to unite the opposition parties under one umbrella ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Regarding the Pegasus issue, Mamata Banerjee said: “We have to fight together against the autocracy of the BJP, and against Pegasus. The BJP’s authoritarian attitude and snooping are attempts to silence people’s voices. If our voice and fundamental rights are lost, everything is lost.”

She said that if the government was not behind the snooping, then they should take suo moto action against Pegasus. “All agencies have been converted into different forms of Pegasus. The BJP does not trust its own ministers and the RSS. Their phones are also tapped,” she said.

Banerjee also said that she had held a closed door meeting with Kishor, party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and party president Subrata Bakshi ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections and even that meeting was snooped.
