TravelPerk Nabs Sustainability Consultancy Susterra
TravelPerk has acquired corporate travel sustainability consulting firm Susterra, continuing a recent spate of acquisitions that have grown both the geographic footprint and scope of services for the Barcelona-based travel management provider.
The acquisition of U.K.-headquartered Susterra—the financial terms of which were not disclosed—is the latest step in what TravelPerk described as its “ongoing investment in sustainability” following the 2020 rollout of the company’s GreenPerk carbon-offsetting program.
Founded by environmental scientist James Dent, Susterra provides companies with data and analytics on their travel-related environmental impact, which information subsequently can be leveraged to reduce costs and achieve sustainability goals.
TravelPerk chief commercial officer Jean-Christophe Taunay-Bucalo has identified sustainability as one of three areas, along with safety and flexibility, that have become significantly more important for corporate travel departments as travel resumes in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amid that amped-up onus on sustainability, TravelPerk envisions combining the capabilities of Susterra and GreenPerk to offer clients an end-to-end sustainability offering covering “everything from reporting to offsetting.” Susterra’s technology will be integrated into TravelPerk’s platform in the coming months, with Susterra founder Dent joining TravelPerk, the company said.
The deal for Susterra continues what has been a busy year of buying for TravelPerk, starting with the January purchase of U.S.-based travel management provider NexTravel. After landing a $160 million Series D funding round in April, the company continued the shopping spree with the July acquisition of the U.K.’s Click Travel.
